About this book
In presenting this reference collection designed for the use of researchers in law and economics, Backhaus (public finance and fiscal sociology, Erfurt U., Germany) seeks to avoid duplication with similar works, particularly the New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics and the Law, which focused on the Chicago tradition. This allows for a greater focus on primarily European aspects of law and economics. The first 32 contributions are presented in sections dealing with the basics of the law and economics approach; private law and economics; public law and economics; labor law and economics; regulation, taxation, and public enterprise; dispute resolution; sources of law; and the economic analysis of legal problems. The volume concludes with 26 scholarly biographies of key figures, with examples including Cesare Beccaria, Franz Böhm, Friedrich von Hayek, Theodor Herzl, Karl Marx, Plato, Thorstein Veblen, and Max Weber.
